  • Rythym, Rhyme + Reason

RR&R was our first education outreach program started in 2011 and we have now recommenced teaching after the Covid interregnum to bring inspiration and joy to some of the most needy children in the region. RR&R is an empowering combination of innovative music teaching and a hands-on approach to playing which can transform the lives of our 6 to 12 year old students. The program uses instruments from Mexico’s pre-Columbian past, such as clay nose flutes, log drums and rain sticks, along with those of world cultures, including ukuleles, marimbas and guitars, many of which were donated by Patron Members. The program is based at the children’s activity center of Ojala Ninos in San Miguel Viejo; only a kilometer from centro, but a world away in terms of opportunities for children. Classes are taught for 44 weeks a year every Friday by a talented Mexican teacher, Edgar Ramirez, bringing creative and cognitive learning opportunities to disadvantaged children which they would otherwise have.

  • The Music Academy

At Cinco de Mayo school we teach 8-12 year olds music theory and various instruments, including strings, woodwind and brass. The program is expanding rapidly, and is greatly sought after by teachers, parents and children. The most talented join the Pro Music Children’s Orchestra, which has already gained widespread recognition by winning the Best in Guanajuato State against 90 other similar orchestras. They also perform at municipal and other events, such as a very successful concert at the Kiosko in the jardin principal. Sponsor a class for a budding young musician for as little as $1000 pesos a month.
